Description

Grows to a height of 1m.

Hibiscus trionum, commonly known as the Bladder Hibiscus, Puarangi, or Flower of an Hour, is a charming annual or short-lived perennial native to New Zealand. This compact shrub is admired for its striking single flowers, which feature cream to lemon-yellow petals with dark purple or deep burgundy centers. These blooms, though short-lived, typically lasting just a single day, are produced in abundance throughout the season, ensuring a continuous display of color in the garden.

The plant forms a well-branched, compact mound, reaching up to 80 cm in both height and width. Its deeply lobed, dark green leaves create a rich, textural backdrop for the delicate flowers, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal. After flowering, Hibiscus trionum produces distinctive inflated seed pods, adding another layer of interest to the plant.

Hibiscus trionum is versatile and easy to grow, making it an excellent choice for mixed plantings, borders, containers, or as a filler in garden beds.
